25,787 Yaba tablets seize along the Burma-Bangladesh border

Chittagong, Bangladesh: Bangladesh Coast Guard (BCG) personnel and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) personnel seized Yaba tablets in separate operation along the Burma –Bangladesh border on February 20, according to BCG official.

“Bangladesh Coast Guard (BCG) seized 19,850 Yaba tablets worth about Tk 10 million from the Bay of Bengal under Teknaf upazila of Cox’s Bazar district on February 20, night.”

Acting on a tip-off, a team of BCG East Zone Chittagong conducted a drive at a place adjacent to Natunpara canal of Shah Parir Dwip at about 11 pm when a group of smugglers reached the area with the contraband tablets, according to the Coast Guard Headquarters. “The Yaba have been coming from Burma to Bangladesh every day and the security forces are not able to control the drug trafficking along the border.”

However, the smugglers left the scene sensing the presence of the law enforcers leaving the Yaba tablets and BCG can’t able to arrest anyone with connection.

Similarly, the BGB personnel arrested three Bangladeshi people – Jewel Mallik, of Fatikchhari, Shafiul Alam, of Chittagong city, and Hossain of Chandpur, with 5,937 Yaba pills and five bottles of Phensidyl at Dum Dum Meah , under Teknaf police station, according to BGB official.

The BGB calculated the value of drug is around 1800,000 Taka and the BGB handed over them to the Teknaf police station, the police filed a drug trafficking case against them, said Kalam, an officer from the police station.
