Two Rohingyas die in Thai detention center

Bangkok, Thailand: Two Rohingya boat people died (Innah lilahhe Wainnah Elahi Rajeeon) at Hadjai Hospital after shifting from Sadao Immigration detention center (IDC) on July 4, Maung Kyaw Nu, President of Burmese Rohingya association in Thailand (BRAT) said.
“The two Rohingya – Mhamad Rafique (18), son of Dill Mohamad, hailed from Myo Thugyi (Kanda Para ) village of Maungdaw Township, and Mohamad Salim (18),  son of  Abdul Gani, hailed from Thakeh Byin (Sakkipara) of Sittwe (Akyab)- were shifted to the hospital while they become serious conditions and died same day of transferred to hospital.”

The Namaz e Janaza was held at the Pakistani Jame Mosque of Hadjai on July 5 –Friday after Jummah- where a good numbers of Rohingyas and local Muslim participated.

Up to now five young Rohingyas died from Sadao IDC, according to sources.

According to BRAT president, a medical team of Thai Muslim Medical Association visited the Sadao IDC on July 4 where Dr Arfin said, “There are still five serious detainees who need urgent medical treatment.”

“Dr. Arfin met Governor of Songkhla and requested to transfer the detainees to a better place as the conditions in a detention center are inhumane and likely to lead to a growing toll among the Rohingya boatpeople. There are more than 300 detainees at Sadao detention center and the place is very small for them.”

“They can’t move and can’t get any exercise. They are losing the use of their limbs and the consequences of continuing like this will be more deaths,” said Volunteer doctor Anantachai Thaipratan, according to Puketwan online news.

I am shocked to hear about the demise news of innocent Rohingya youths in Thai detention center. ARU could request OIC to talk with Thai government to shift them to better place (or) handover them to UNHCR, said a Rohingya leader from Bangladesh.
