Kutupalong, Bangladesh: A road accident killed 6 people and 30 injured today morning on Cox’s Bazar-Teknaf highway, near Ukhiya collage at Burma-Bangladesh border, said Hamid, an elder from Kutupalong.
The accident happen in morning at about 7:00am while two jeeps collided. The victims are most of the Burmese Rohingya refugee camp of Kutupalong and local people. 5 people from unregistered refugee camp and one from local died on the spot. The injured person are – 12 from unregistered Rohingya refugee camp, 7 from registered camp and 11 from local, Hamid said.
Most of the people are day labor who were going for jobs in Cox’s Bazar by local old jeep as today was free from shutdown of political unrest in Bangladesh. The people are unable to feed their family without daily work, said Anwar, a refugee from the camp.
“A Cox’s Bazar-bound public jeep, locally known as Chander Gari, collided head-on with another jeep coming from the opposite direction near Ukhiya College around 7:00am, where six people dead on the spot and injuring 30 others, said Gias Uddin Miah, officer in charge of Ukhiya police station.
The injured persons were admitted to Ukhiya and Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospitals, said Shamshu from the Ukhiya.
The jeep are carrying more than 60 people and most of the passengers are from refugee camp, said Shamshu.
