Maungdaw, Arakan State: A Rohingya old man was killed by army personnel from Ywet Nyo Taung (Rohingya Taung) on November 8, for protecting a girl from army who tried to attempt to rape, said a village elder on condition of anonymity.
“The victim is identified as— Shamshu Alam (60), son of Syed Alam, hailed from Ywet Nyo Taung (Rohingya Taung) village of Maungdaw Township.”
On November 7, a group of army from camp No.12 of Area No.5 of Maungdaw Township went to that village at night to pick up girls from village to rape where the army asked the said Shamshu to show girls but he refused to show. Then, the army officer who led the army personnel started beating him till the officer tired and said to appear in the morning to the camp. He is a very poor villager and transferred to Maungdaw from Kyauktaw Township, nearly 10 years ago, according to the family member.
On October 8, the family members of the victim have known that the victim was dead in the house for torture of army officer. The family members reported to the camp about his dead. However, the dead body was brought to Maungdaw hospital for autopsy by army personnel. After that the dead body was handed over to the victim’s relatives to bury, the family member more added.
Hashim, a youth from the locality said,” We are killed by authorities like animals.”
On that day, in the evening, relatives buried the body in a local cemetery, a businessman from the locality said
