Eight Burmese fishermen arrested in Bay of Bengal

Teknaf, Bangladesh: Eight Burmese fishermen along with a fishing boat were arrested by the Bangladesh Naval force on March 20, at about 4: 00pm, Jafor, a local fisherman from Saint-Martin said.
According to official, Bangladesh Navy arrested the Burmese fishermen from Bangladesh territorial waters during the fishing.

After arrest, they were brought to Saint-Martin Naval Base and detained there for investigation, official said.

Lt Majahar, Commander of Saint-Martin Naval camp confirmed that the eight Burmese fishermen were arrested from Bangladesh side after being conducted operation by the Bangladesh Naval force on March 10, as they entered Bangladesh territorial waters for fishing illegally.

Later on, they were handed over to Teknaf police station for further interrogation, the commander further said.

However, police has filed case against them with the connection of illegal entering Bangladesh territorial waters for fishing, sources said.
