BGB member shot, another abducted in Burma-Bangladesh border

A Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) member has been shot and another abducted by Burmese Border Guard Police (BGP) in Burma-Bangladesh border –Naf River near Dum Dum Meah, Teknaf on June 17 early morning at around 5:00 am, according to BGB source said.
Sepoy Biplob, 35, a member of BGB was injured after shooting by BGP while a team of BGB paid patrolling in Naf River, but Nayek Abdul Razzak, another BGB was abducted and   has been kept at a BGP camp near the Naf River in Burma, BGB source from Teknaf said.

The BGB patrol team intercepted a BGP trawler in the Naf River inside Bangladeshi territory while it was conducting a search drive on another trawler around 6:30am on Wednesday, said Teknaf 42 BGB Commander Lieutenant Colonel Abujar Al-Jahid.

Being angered by the move, the BGP men started shooting at the BGB trawler and left the spot promptly, leaving Biplob injured.

“A Burmese border guard patrol on the river fired at the BGB, leading to an exchange of fire between them. The unwanted shooting broke out as the Burmese border forces mistook them to be human-traffickers or smugglers,” Al Jahid said.

During this time, another BGB member named Abdur Razzak was taken away by the BGP men, BGB Cox’s Bazar Sector Commander Colonel MM Anisur Rahman claimed.

But, Arakan State government secretary U Tin Maung Swe said BGB boat enter into Burmese territory, while the BGP checked the boat, the BGB started firing to BGP where one BGP was hit in leg.

Similarly, BGP officer Myo Swe said the BGP paid patrolling in near the fence where they heard a boat stopping near the fence and went to check where fire started from boat. So, there was exchanged fire where BGP met a BGB personnel with gun and kept in our camp.

The bullet-hit BGB man is Sepoy Biplob, 35, was admitted to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital. Later, he was shifted to Combined Military Hospital in Chittagong, said Al-Jahid.

BGB have instantly sent a letter to the BGP authorities protesting the shooting and abduction, said BGB Cox’s Bazar Sector Commander Colonel MM Anisur Rahman, adding that a flag meeting could be held any time over the issue
