Teknaf, Bangladesh: A robbery was committed at Leda unregistered Rohingya camp, Nila union, under the Teknaf police station by local robbers on July 8, at about 12:30 am, and wounded eight refugees including two minor boys and woman, said Hakim, a refugee leader from the camp.
“The wounded are identified as—Moulvi Ayub (35), son of Goni Meah, Room No.272; Nur Hussain (25), son of Mohamed Hussain, Room No. 291; Zahid Hussain (15), son of Hamid Hussain, Room No. 299; Hamid Hussain (55), son of Nozu Meah and two other minor boys aged 12 and 13. They all are from D-Block wounded by firing bullets.”
Besides, two other refugees named Jalal (35), son of Goni Meah and his wife Ms Robia Khatun (25) Room No.279 are also wounded of knife stab by rubbers.
On that day, at about 12:30 am, a group of 20 to 25 rubbers with arms and masked on their face entered the refugee camp and attacked the said 4 persons’ rooms and looted their goods. When the room owners did not open their doors, the rubbers open fired to the gate. They (rubbers) asked the refugees to open the doors in guise of police, Hakim more added.
Hearing the noise of firing, refugees rushed to the spot, but they were halted by firing bullets.
Being informed, at around 1:00 am, a group of police from Teknaf police station went to the Leda camp by a taxi giving horns, so the rubbers ran away from the scene. The police rescued the wounded people and sent to Teknaf hospital for medical treatment. Later on, the doctors referred them to Cox’s Bazar Hospital, another refugee leader Shaker said.
The seriously wounded are Moulvi Ayub, and two minor boys (name unknown) aged 12 and 13. They will be sent to Chittagong General Hospital, said a relative of the victims.
The rubbers went to the Leda camp targeting the Moulvi Ayub as he has mobile shop in the camp, said a refugee who denied to be named as security reason.
The local robbers are from Rongi Khali and Ali Khali villages, according to refugees.
There are about 13,000 undocumented Rohingyas are living in Leda camp. They do not get any relief from any quarter. But, they only get shelter, health care, a therapeutic feeding center accessing to clean water from IMO, a refugee elder Nasim said.
The Leda camp has no armed security, but, only Anser (Para military force) and it had been robbed also on February 23, 2015.
