National Mourning day held in Burmese refugee camps

Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh: First time, the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s 40th death anniversary (National Mourning day) was held in Burmese refugee camps (Nayapara and Kutupalong) on August 15, Yousuf, a refugee teacher from Nayapara camp said. “Bangabandhu’s Life and Works’ marking on Bangabandhu’s 40th death anniversary and National Mourning Day, arranged by Technical Assistance Incorporate (TAI) and Funded by Refugee Relief and Repatriation Commissioner (RRRC).”

According to  camp official, Jalal Uddin, the Camp-in-Charge of Nayapara camp was Chief Guest in the occasion.  Fozulul Korim, the officer of RRRC; and protection officer of UNHCR gave delivery speech regarding the Bangabandhu’s 40th death anniversary and National Mourning Day and the independence of the country, in Nayapara camp.

The meeting was started at Nayapara community center at around 11:30 am and ended at about 1:30 pm. After finishing the occasion, some snacks were distributed among the participants, Amin, a refugee from the camp.

In similarly, the first Bangabandhu’s 40th death anniversary was held in Kutupalong camp on same day at about 2: 30pm, said Salim, a refugee from the camp

A refugee leader named Shaker said that NGOs, government staffs, UNHCR staffs, Rohingya refugees and others participated in the occasion.

“We welcome the Bangladesh government as it is first time to hold Bangabandhu’s 40th death anniversary and National Mourning Day in Burmese refugee camps after 1992, said Ahmed, a refugee teacher.
