Two Rohingya villagers arrested in Maungdaw south

Maungdaw, Arakan State: Police department of Special Branch (SB) yesterday arrested two Rohingya villagers over the allegation that they had renovated their houses, Mohin from Aley Than Kyaw said. “The arrested were identified as— Mohamed Shah (35), son of Yousuf and Anam Ullah (28), son of Abul Kashim, hailed from Khonzabill village under the Aley Than Kyaw village Tract of Maungdaw Township.”

A group of police led by police officer Aung Kyaw Sein (SB) from Aley Than Kyaw camp went to the Khonzabill village on November 23, at around 9:30 am and arrested the said two men for repairing their houses without giving information to concerned authority, according to villagers.

While the arrestees complained that they didn’t repair their houses in this year. They built their houses last year taking permission from Township Administration Officer (Ma-Ya-Ka). But, the police officer refused to accept it, said a village elder named Somiha.

However, the arrestees were brought to their police camp and detained for further interrogations, said a relative of a victim.

However, they had been detained in the police custody until yesterday evening. Later on, they were released by SB police officer Aung Kyaw Sein after taking 200,000 Kyat from the victims, the relative more added.

A businessman from the locality said on condition of anonymity, “Northern Arakan becomes a lawless region and Rohingya community has no other alternative to put this case for justice.,”
