Bangladesh brings back 48 Bangladeshi boat-people

Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh: Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) brought back 48 Bangladeshi boat-people on December 2 at Taungbro Left, a sub-town of Maungdaw, a BGB aide named Mohamed from Taungbro said.
BGB was holding a flag meeting with Border Guard Police (BGP) of Burma to repatriate 48 Bangladeshi boat-people, who were rescued by Burma authorities from the Bay of Bengal in 2015 nearby Hyaingyi Island of Irrawaddy Division, he more added.

A team of BGB led by Lt Col Imran Ullah Sharkar of Cox’s Bazar BGB Battalion No.17 Commanding officer went to Burma today, at noon, through Naikhong Chari border of Bandarban district. Besides, Cox’s Bazar Sector Commander Col M. Anisur Rahman also present in the meeting, according to BGB official.

From Burma side, U Soe Naing, the immigration officer of Burmese Immigration Department led the 8-member for Burmese delegation. The Taungbro left BGP Commander U Kyaw Tayza also participated in the meeting, said Maung Nu from Taungbro.

The repatriation process was completed through the flag meeting at around 3:30pm, he more added.

The Burmese Navy rescued 208 and 727 boat-people on May 21 and 29 from the Bay of Bengal including Rohingya and Bangladeshi boat-people.

The Bangladesh authorities, after confirming their nationalities, brought back a total of 739 Bangladeshi boat-people from Burma in six times on June 8.
