Refugee child dies for lack of treatment

Ukhiya, Bangladesh: A registered Rohingya refugee child of Kutupalong official camp died for lack of proper treatment in Cox’s Bazar government hospital on December 1, Noor Mohamed, a refugee from Kutupalong camp said. “The deceased has been identified as Mohamed Tuhin, (one month), son of Rohim Ullah of Kutupalong official camp.”

Tuhin has been suffering from vomiting, stomach pain and pneumonia since November 30. The child was brought to refugee clinic for treatment yesterday but doctors didn’t admit him in clinic. Later on, some refugees frequently requested to the doctors to admit him in the clinic. However, at last, he was admitted in clinic, according to refugees.

When his condition became serious, doctor immediately referred to Cox’s Bazar Sadar (government) hospital for better treatment the same day, Rohim, the father of the child said.

However, the child was admitted at Cox’s Bazar government hospital but did not get immediate treatment in the hospital.

After a while, the parents complained to some nurses that it was needed urgent treatment as the child was very serious. On hearing that a doctor came and became angry with the parents and then the doctor injected an injection to the boy. After that the boy died on the spot within five minutes, mother said.

The parents tried to bring the documents and the bottle of injection but the doctor snatched away from them, the mother more added.

According to refugees, they don’t get proper treatment from Ministry of Health (MOH) in the camp.

A refugee suspect, “The boy was killed by false injection.”
