Ukhiya, Bangladesh: A Rohingya registered refugee of Kutupalong official camp was hit and injured at Cox’s Bazar-Teknaf Highway by an auto-rickshaw (CNG) on November 30, and was dead on December 2 while taking treatment at Chittagong Medical Collage, a refugee named Islam from Kutuaplong camp said.
“The victim was identified as Nurul Hakim (25), son of Nurul Alam, Block-B, Shed # 42, and MRC # 52401 of Kutupalong official camp”.
On November 30, at around 10:00 am, Hakim went to the Highway from the camp for his personal matter while a local youth named Nurul Kobir (alias Botto) met him and snatched away his mobile phone. He (Botto) is well-known in the locality as a notorious person, according to a refugee eyewitness named Khalu.
After taking his mobile, he (Botto) also pushed Hakim to the Higway road, meanwhile, a speedy auto-rickshaw came and hit him, the eyewitness more added.
After the accident, some refugees immediately sent him to the clinic of the refugee camp and seeing the critical condition of the patient, doctor referred him to Cox’s Bazar government hospital. Again, the Cox’s Bazar doctors referred him to Chittagong Medical College Hospital for better treatment, said Anwer, a relative of the victim.
However, he died in Chittagong Medical Hospital yesterday while taking medical treatment, said his father.
The victim’s relatives complained to UNHCR and Camp-in-Charge regarding the matter against the culprit. The family also filed a case against the driver of CNG and culprit in Ukhiya police station, an elderly refugee said.
