Teknaf, Bangladesh: Bangladesh Coastguard arrested two Burmese nationals with Yaba tablets from the Naff River on December 3, while crossing Burma-Bangladesh border, Hussain Kamal from Teknaf town said. “The arrested were identified as—- Md. Mamun Noor (48), son of Md Sukkur and Nurul Hakim (33), hailed from Pranpru of Maungdaw Township.”
Being tipped off; a group of Bangladesh Coastguard of Teknaf conducted the operation at the River and arrested them from nearby Jaliadia Island with 8,000 pieces of Yaba tablets, according to Coastguard officials.
They are smugglers and they have links in Bangladesh side, officials further said.
After arrest, they were sent to Teknaf police station for further interrogation. However, police have filed case against them in the connection of Yaba smuggling, said Anu Meah, an aide of police.
According to sources, thousands of Yaba tablets have been smuggling to Bangladesh from Burma by the sea route, but, the government is unable to prevent it.
On December 1, a flag meeting was held at Maungdaw town between Bangladesh Border Guard (BGB) and Burma Border Guard Police (BGP) to prevent Yaba smuggling, human trafficking and etc. Both sides agreed that they will jointly raid along the Burma-Bangladesh border areas in future, BGB sources said.
