On his way accompanied by others to Buthidaung, at night by a car along with goods, they were stopped at the Powet Chaung BGP camp, nearby a Natala village and then there was an argument between BGP personnel and the victim for money matter, according to driver.

The driver was Rakhine, so, in one stage, the driver drove away the car from the scene paying no money, so the BGP personnel became furious with them. After a while, six BGP members along with three motorbikes chased them and met them near Maung Nama village and then Maung Maung was severely tortured and shot dead on the spot, at around 11: 30 pm. The bullet hit the victim’s head, an eyewitness said.

Being informed, the father of the victim tried to go to Maungdaw Hospital at night, but failed. However, with the help of some higher authorities, the victim’s relatives including the father reached at Maungdaw Hospital at around 4:00 am, but the authority of the hospital did not give permission to see the dead body to his relatives, said one of the brothers of the victim.

After postmortem, the authority of the hospital handed over the body to his relatives at around 10:00 am. However, the dead body was carried to Buthidaung Town from Maungdaw. Later on, the dead body was buried in the cemetery on December 8, at around 2:00 pm, said another relative on condition of anonymity.
