A group Rakhine youths from Sommona Rakhine village under Maungdaw south forcefully took away 12 cows of Rohingyas to their village on July 13, said Mohin, a social woker from Maungdaw.
A group of Rakhine youths from Sommona Rakhine village of Maungdaw south went to the bottom of a mountain near by their village and forcibly took away 12-cow from the cow boys while grazing in the field without giving any reason to the cowboys on July 13, at about 11:00am, he more added.
Being informed, cow owners went to Sommona Rakhine village on same day and met with Rakhine youths and asked them to release their cows. But, the Rakhine youths demanded Kyat 200,000 for releasing the cows, said Rakib, another villager from the locality.
However, later on, the seized cattle were released on that day in the evening after taking Kyat 120,000 by Rakhine youths, the villager more added.
Some owners were identified as—Habib Ullah (55), Noor Mohammed (53) and Tazumuluk (50), hailed from Khonzabill village under the Ali Than Kyaw village tract of Maungdaw Township.
A village elder said, “It is very difficult for us for rearing cows and for grazing nearby mountain as some Rakhines have been trying to create new conflicts between two communities.”
Villagers gave complaint to the concerned authority regarding the matter, but they did not take any heed.
