BGP abduct six Bangladeshi fishermen from the Bay of Bengal

Burmese Border Guard Police (BGP) abducted six Bangladeshi fishermen along with a fishing boat from the Bay of Bengal recently  while fishing in Bangladesh territorial waters, Mohin from Maungdaw said.
The fishermen have been detained and severally beaten up at Aley Than Kyaw BGP camp by the concerned authorities. But the seized boat is being kept in the stream of Gonzandia village of Maungdaw south, Mohin added.

The arrestees are identified as — Abdul Hamid, Fazal Ahamed, Mohamed Hashim, Mohamed Saddam, Mohamed Hossain and Mohamed Rahim of Saint-Martian Island under the Cox’s Bazar district, Mofis, a local fisherman from Saint-Martin said.

Mohammed Nasir Uddin, the owner of the boat said, the fishermen were trying to flee from the BGP camp  but they failed.

However, the ward Chairman Noor Mohammed from the Saint-Martin Island said, the fishermen were abducted and detained there by the BGP and we complain to Bangladesh – Coastguards and Naval forces – regarding the event.”

Earlier, many Bangladeshi fishermen had also been abducted from the Naff River and Bay of Bengal while fishing and detained in Burma by the Burmese border security forces, the Chairman further said.

The Bangladesh Coastguard officer Nafiur Rahaman said, “They heard the incident, and they will talk with BGP regarding this issue soon.”
