Uniforms, caps imported from Myanmar under false declaration

Customs department has seized a consignment of clothes similar to the uniform of Myanmar Army along with other items at Teknaf land port in Cox’s Bazar on March 30, according to Land port authority.
The seized items included 200 pants, 202 shirts, 186 bags, 127 army badges, 452 belts, 30 rain coats and 50 caps, according to the seizure list.

This items are selling in the Lanmawdaw market and it is selling open to the civilians, said Iliyas who always went to Rangoon for exporting  garment items.

According to the documents prepared by the customs officials, a youth from Bandarban moved Rahman Trading to import the military uniforms. But, Rahman Trading and SR Trading imported the military uniforms declaring that they were importing dried fish, tamarind seeds and pickles.

The C & F Agent Rahman Trading and importer AR Trading brought in the items from Myanmar under the false declaration of dry fish and pickles, the custom official from Teknaf land port said.

The office of AR Trading is on Teknaf’s Link Road while the office of C&F Agent Rahman Trading at Chhoto Haji Market in the same Upazila.

On the other hand, Lt. Col. Abuzar Al Jahid, commanding officer of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) Battalion-2 in Teknaf, said a youth named Bhu Aung Chakma was detained in this connection.

Customs sources said Bhu Aung is the owner of AR Trading. BGB detained him in Teknaf Sadar in a raid on March 29 night.

Main Uddin Khan, officer-in-charge of Teknaf Model Police Station, said BGB was yet to hand over anyone detained over the incident to them.

The seized items were kept at the warehouse of the land port.

Members of BGB along with different intelligence and law enforcement agencies visited the port.
