BDRCS and ICRC to aid 3,200 Rohingya families

The Bangladesh Red Crescent Society (BDRCS) with the support of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) will deliver emergency humanitarian assistance to 3,200 families of Rohingyas who fled to Bangladesh since October 2016, according to the reports of United News of Bangladesh – UNB.
The distribution program will inaugurate on Monday instantly at Leda School and Darga C&B field in Teknaf upazila of Cox’s Bazar, at about 10 a m, according to a refugee leader Salim from Nayapara camp.

The BDRCS and ICRC intend to support the most vulnerable people with essential food items to meet their basic needs.

The nine-day long distribution program will cover nearly 19,000 people, and will be carried in line with the outcome of the field assessment of the essential needs and identification of the most vulnerable families.

Each family will receive six food items such as — 50kg rice, four kg lentil, four-liter Soya bean oil, four kg sugar, 2 kg salt and two kg Suji. On the first day, over 400 families will receive food assistance, the UNB reported.

In Ukhiya and Teknaf, the BDRCS and ICRC have been responding jointly to the most urgent needs refugees from Rakhine through supporting the two main health facilities in Ukhia and Teknaf and deploying mobile health team to the rural villages to reach out to bigger number of refugees.
